Volleyball’s McClellan nabs honor

After leading the Eagles in kills in a pair of wins over Montana, Eastern Washington University volleyball player Maya McClellan has been named the Big Sky Conference Offensive Player of the Week as announced Feb. 23. The award is the first of McClellan’s career.

McClellan helped the Eagles top Montana in five sets in back-to-back matches, sweeping the Grizzlies in the regular season for the first time since 2016. In the first match on Feb. 21, the redshirt-sophomore totaled a career-high 19 kills before setting a new career-best with 22 the following day. In all, McClellan totaled 41 kills in two matches and averaged 4.10 kills per set.

Gonzaga tops Eastern 2-0 in soccer

The Eastern Washington University women’s soccer team lost a non-conference match to Gonzaga 2-0 at Luger Field in Spokane Feb. 22.

Gonzaga (2-1) got goals 10th minute from Lauren Elwer and then again in the 20th minute by Hannah Hale. Sariah Keister had four shots with one on target for the Eagles. Eastern was outshot 19-7 with two on goal. EWU keeper Kelsee Winston had seven saves.

 Eastern (0-2) hosts The College of Idaho Sunday, Feb. 28 at 1 p.m.
