February library programs include trivia, toddler books and embroidery

SPOKANE – The County Library District is offering a wide variety of programs to keep people busy during the month of February — with topics ranging from spices to Medicare cost savings to trivia.

Two programs kick things off on Feb. 17. During “Picture Book Chat” that Wednesday at 1 p.m. participants can explore new picture books for toddlers, preschoolers and emergent readers that they will enjoy reading with you. This program is currently viewable on the district’s Facebook page.

The second program gives insights into Medicare. “Medicare-related Cost Savings Programs” at 3 p.m. enables the viewer to discover if they qualify for $144 a month in savings in Medicare costs while learning about wellness and preventive care benefits and durable medical equipment.

Business owners and entrepreneurs can get a basic understanding of business financial statements — balance sheet, profit and loss statement, cash flow statement — in “SCORE Business: Understanding Your Financial Statements” on Thursday, Feb. 18, at noon.

You can learn a new embroidery stitch every day during “Creativebug: Embroidery Sampler Challenge,” with tutorial videos. Plus get moral support and socialize with others in three online interactive discussions starting Saturday, Feb. 20, at 2 p.m. Supplies will be available for curbside pickup for registered participants.

Sample exotic spices with the experts from Elz Tastes & Tea Market, of Spokane Valley, during the “Spice Tasting” program on Wednesday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m. Supplies will be available for curbside pickup for registered participants.

In the Fair Housing Basics workshop on Monday, Feb. 22, at 1 p.m. and in Spanish on Wednesday, Feb. 24, at 1 p.m. (Conceptos básicos de vivienda justa, miércoles 24 de Febrero de 1 pm), you can learn about the federal Fair Housing Act and Washington Law Against Discrimination, prohibited actions and compliance with the Fair Housing laws.

Finally, trivia hasn’t been forgotten. It’s time to remember everything you know about the series Game of Thrones. Will you claim the iron throne on trivia night? Show off your knowledge during Virtual Trivia: Game of Thrones on Friday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m.
