Cheney Congregational Church

We continue to host live Sunday morning services on Zoom at 10am. You can request a Zoom link through our website, www.cheneycongregational.org.

We will be hosting a drive-in Christmas Eve service on Dec. 24 at 5:30 p.m. in our church parking lot. The service will be broadcasted to your car radio, so you can participate from the warmth and safety of your own car. We will sing carols, hear a Christmas story, and light candles. A live stream of this service will also be provided, which you can request a link to on our website.

These are difficult times for many of us. Our prayers go out to you all. May you know God’s love and God’s peace during this season.

Emmanuel Lutheran Church

Greeting from Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Although we cannot worship together as a congregation, we invite the West Plains community to access our website emmanuelcheney.org for weekly worship materials, sermon, and Zoom fellowship. If you should need pastoral support during this difficult time, please contact pastor Arianna Arends at 509-954-5886.

Emmanuel plans to gather for worship services two weeks after Spokane County opens Phase 3. Will update if plans change.

Our Free Community Pantry remains open to the community and all are invited to take what they need and leave what they can. Donations of non-perishable food and personal care items for all ages are greatly appreciated. Thank you for your continued support of this important ministry to our neighbors in need.

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church

A welcoming haven, nourishing all God’s people in body, mind and spirit. Rev. Kathryn Lamphere, our vicar, will preach and preside, offering Holy Eucharist. Because of the pandemic, the service will be an abbreviated version but includes all the necessary prayers beginning at ll a.m. The congregation will receive the bread but no wine at this time.

All safety and sanitizing measures will be strictly observed, in particular wearing masks and keeping social distancing. All are welcome.

The Memorial Service in honor of our deceased priest, Rev. Christine Soule, is postponed, and will be rescheduled later, to be held at St. John’s Cathedral. We will keep you informed.

For your contemplation: “We are a community of pardon, not a community of judgment. We are told not to judge one another and we must not. We must not judge in such a way as to reject and condemn. That is to say we not refuse to accept the genuine good will of our brother and sister; we not reject their sincere and open offers of reconciliation, their true friendship. Even our enemy must not be judged, but his need for forgiveness must be recognized. We must not judge, that is to say we must always be ready to take the first step in offering reconciliation and pardon. We must not let our evaluations of a person’s acts stand in the way of the Holy Spirit, who draws us to unity with the “other” in spite of his actions which make him/her different from ourselves, perhaps opposed to us. We have a duty to pardon, because it is through us that God wishes to pardon all sinners.” Thomas Merton

United Methodist Church

We will celebrate the third Sunday of Advent and light the candle of Peace this week at the United Methodist Church. Pastor Alissa Bertsch will preach as we continue an Advent sermon series based on the book “Incarnation” by Adam Hamilton.

Although not in person, our Advent celebration includes the traditional lighting of Advent candles, scripture and songs. In addition to the weekly worship services, our annual Christmas cantata will be online soon as well as a special Christmas Eve service.

Our services are also available with an at home worship guide each week. You can download the guide from the church website www.cheneyumc.org. You may also contact pastor Bertsch at 509-879-2278 if you would like be added to our mailing list for a hard copy.
