6TH DISTRICT--Jenny Graham, a Republican, will have a second term representing the 6th Legislative District in the state House of Representatives. Democratic challenger Tom McGarry conceded the race for Position 2 this morning, Nov. 5.
""I am grateful to the people who worked so hard on the campaign," McGarry said. "We ran a credible campaign, but at the end of the day the voters made the decision to re-elect Jenny. "
Graham led McGarry by over four percentage points after Tuesday's initial count: 52.83% to 47.04%, totaling 39,847 votes to McGarry's 35,482.
"I am very happy and excited to have hopefully earned the people's trust again," Graham said after Tuesday's results came in. "I know there's a lot of hard work ahead of us, and I'm looking forward to including them in decisions that are being made and looking forward to better days coming. It has to be better than 2020."
She said her next steps will be to recover from COVID-19, which she contracted in October, and then prepare for January's legislative session, whether that's in Olympia or virtual.
"(Next steps are) going to be get through this and figure out what they're doing for the session and pick up and take what is going on, hopefully sooner than later," Graham said.
McGarry wished Graham well in his concession statement.
"While we disagreed on many issues, no one could question Representative Graham's passion and dedication for those issues she holds dear," McGarry said.
No winner has been declared in the race for Pos. 1 between Mike Volz and Zack Zappone, though Volz holds a slim lead.
