Winter Storm Watch issued

Airway Heights, Cheney and Medical Lake may see snow Friday

AIRWAY HEIGHTS – The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Friday afternoon and night in advance of a cold front that's expected to bring moderate to heavy snow to the U.S. Highway 2 corridor.

The watch includes much of Northeast Washington, mostly north of U.S. Highway 2. Davenport, Reardan, Airway Heights, Medical Lake and Cheney are in the watch area.

"Travel could be very difficult, including the Friday evening commute," the weather service said. "Heavy, wet snow may lead to broken tree limbs and power outages."

"Heavy snow possible above 2,000 feet, with 3-6 inches possibl;,1-3 inches possible below 2,000 feet," the National Weather Service watch said.

With the snow, temperatures will be plummeting, the weather service reported.

Overnight Thursday, the temperature is expected to drop to 23 degrees and overnight Friday, it could hit a low of 23.

But frigid temperatures won't really set until Saturday night and Sunday morning, when the low may drop to 14 degrees.

And overnight Sunday night, the low is expected to drop further to just 12, before rebounding slight Monday night to 17.

Daytime highs over the weekend will hover from about 32 Saturday to about 33 Sunday.

By Tuesday, the daytime high is expected to inch back up to about 37.

"Temperatures over the weekend will be unseasonably cold and records will be possible Sunday and Monday," the National Weather Service said. "Next week is expected to be dry and stable with temperatures gradually rebounding close to average by mid to late week."
