EWU hires consultant to look at athletics funding

CHENEY – Eastern Washington University has selected The PICTOR Group of Reno, Nevada to complete an Athletic Review at the institution. The competitive bid process resulted in a $38,000 contract over the next six months.

The consulting firm will conduct an independent analysis of the athletic department, a review that will look at all operations including budget and competitive standing. The process will include a review of all relevant documents, on-site visits, and interviews with internal and external stakeholders – including faculty and student groups.

With a leadership team that includes three former NCAA Division I Athletics Directors and a Division I Conference Commissioner, The PICTOR Group has expertise in comprehensive programmatic review and assessment for athletics programs, conferences or national sports organizations.

EWU is working with the consultant as the athletics department works through a deficit, a situation compounded by the pandemic and resulting budget reductions and loss of competitive sports.

The review will include a complete analysis of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats facing the department. The scope of the University Athletic Review will culminate with The PICTOR Group providing recommendations to the Board of Trustees and Executive Leadership on the long-term sustainability of Athletics at the institution.

An analysis of findings and final report will be presented to the EWU Board of Trustees in February 2021.
