Cheney residents earn degree from WGU this summer

SALT LAKE CITY – The following local residents have earned a degree from Western Governors University (WGU). The online, nonprofit university has graduated over 190,000 students from across the country since its inception in 1997.

• Beverly Reed, bachelor of science, nursing

• John Donado, bachelor of arts, special education

• Joshua Alent, master of education, instructional design

• Kadeem Smalls, master of science, curriculum and instruction

• Matthew Bellmer, master of education, learning and technology

WGU has recognized 7,734 undergraduate and 5,254 graduate degree recipients who have completed their degrees since April 1, 2020. Their areas of study include business, K-12 education, information technology, and health professions, including nursing. The average time to graduation for those earning a bachelor’s degree was two years, three months, while the average time to degree for graduate programs was one year, five months. The average age for those who graduated is 37 years old.

Established in 1997 by 19 U.S. governors with a mission to expand access to high-quality, affordable higher education, online, nonprofit WGU now serves more than 123,000 students nationwide and has more than 190,000 graduates in all 50 states.
