Labor Day Heights blazes near 100% containment

AIRWAY HEIGHTS—Two fires near the city that began to burn on Labor Day are 100% contained over a week later.

A fire that burned off North Old Trails Road northeast of Northern Quest Casino, now known as the Euclid Track Fire, is 100% contained and 100% trailed after burning through 260 acres, according to D.J. Green of the Department of Natural Resources.

“We will continue to send resources out there for the next several days to monitor it and check on it, and basically check for any heat,” Green said.

Six structures were lost in the fire, none of which were houses, according to Fire District No. 10 Chief Ken Johnson.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Level 2 evacuation orders were lifted on Thursday, Sept. 10.

40 residences were saved by initial attack crews, according to Fire District No. 10’s Facebook page.

A blaze off South Christensen Road northwest of Fairchild Air Force Base swallowed 80 acres, but is now 100% contained and in patrol status, according to Green.

Six outbuildings, one primary residence and two RV trailers were lost in the fire. One other primary residence was damaged.

Evacuation orders were also lifted Sept. 10. The cause remains under investigation. No injuries were reported. 20 structures were saved, according to the DNR Facebook page.
