Possible confusion on location of Medical Lake Food Bank

MEDICAL LAKE – While the Food Bank has been serving the community for years, volunteers at the city’s resource for low-income residents are concerned many people may not know where it is located.

Volunteer Terri Cooper said she did a recent Google search of the facility and said it produced the location on Lefevre Street of Care and Share, the local thrift store that sells second-hand goods and clothing. Care and Share revenue help support the Food Bank, Cooper said, but it is not the location.

“The problem is the Care and Share is closed due to COVID,” Cooper said in an email.

The Medical Lake Food Bank is located at the corner of Grace and Washington streets next door to the Post Office. According to director Terri Worl, the actual address is 207 S. Washington St.

Cooper said it is important to clear up the confusion from the online reference.

“I’ve been volunteering at the Medical Lake Food Bank and I’m finding that people who may never have been to the food bank before do not know where it is. I’m concerned there are many out of work that may need help.”

Cooper said food distribution takes place on Friday from 10 a.m. – noon. Individuals who have never received food before may come in at anytime during this period, with regular monthly clients picking up at 10 a.m. and regular weekly clients at 11 a.m.

During the current pandemic, people must stay in their cars. Food Bank volunteers will collect information and load the groceries into their car.

Information that is needed to receive food is name, address, phone and number of people living in the household. Proof of claim will be processed after the crisis has passed.
