CHENEY -- A trio of high school players from the Pacific Northwest will join the Eastern Washington University men's basketball program next fall when classes resume on the EWU campus in Cheney.
They include All-State selection Mutdung Bol, pronounced "muh-doon bowl," a 6-foot-3 guard from Edmonds-Woodway High School in Seattle, and Isaiah Amato, pronounced "ah-ma-toe," a 6-5 guard from Portland, Ore., and Central Catholic HS. The third is Victor Radocaj, pronounced "rad-doh-chuh-eye-yuh," a 6-9 forward from Richmond, B.C. who attended the RISE Centre Academy in Brantford, Ontario.
Bol is a Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association (WIBCA) All-State pick for 2019-2020. He was a four-year varsity starter for 3A classification Edmonds-Woodway, averaging 18 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals per game for the Warriors. Bol earned first-team All-Wesco honors the past three seasons.
Amato led Central Catholic High School to back-to-back Mt. Hood Conference championships as the team’s point guard, averaging 15 points and five assists over the past two seasons. He has received first-team all-conference honors and was the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year.
Most recently, Radocaj played high school basketball for The RISE Centre Academy in Brantford, Ontario, after previously attending Robert Alexander McMath Secondary in Richmond, B.C. He is the first Canadian to join the Eastern basketball program since Henry Bekkering from Taber, Alberta, lettered for the Eagles in 2005 and 2006.
In 2019, Radocaj was selected to play in the 2019 BioSteel All-Canadian Basketball Game. He was one of 24 across Canada to be selected, but only three were from B.C. and he was the only junior from among the 24. He had helped McMath reach the Lower Mainland AAA championship game.
Radocaj has been a longstanding member of Canada Basketball, and in 2018 he was one of 62 selected for the Men's National Age-Group Assessment Camps in Toronto, Ontario.
