Eastern Washington University men’s basketball senior Mason Peatling — a leading candidate for league MVP honors this season — has been honored as the Big Sky Conference Ready Nutrition Player of the Week for the second-straight week, the league office announced March 3.

He was also announced as the winner a week earlier on Feb. 25, earning the same honor from College Sports Madness. He has now been honored four times by the Big Sky this season and in his career, and CSN has honored him twice.

In a weekend road sweep over Southern Utah (69-51) and Northern Colorado (68-64), Peatling averaged a double-double at 18.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. He sank 54.8 percent of his shots and also averaged 3.0 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.5 steals per game with just two total turnovers.

He had his 13th double-double of the season and 10th in his last 13 games with 20 points and 11 rebounds at Northern Colorado on Feb. 29 in a showdown for first place in the Big Sky standings. He made 9-of-18 shots and had three assists and three blocks.

One game earlier, he had 17 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals against Southern Utah, making 8-of-13 shots.

Peatling and his Eagle teammates try to wrap-up at least a share of the Big Sky Conference regular season title when EWU closes out the regular season by hosting Idaho State on Thursday (March 5) and Weber State on Saturday (March 7) at Reese Court in Cheney, Wash.

Peatling will be honored in pre-game ceremonies on Saturday’s “Senior Day” at Reese Court.

“We are playing for a championship, and our team is full of great players, great students and great people,” head coach Shantay Legans. “Mason Peatling has given his heart, his blood, his tears and everything to the Eastern Washington program. He’s a 4.0 graduate student and does everything you ask of him for our program and the community. Our fans need to come support him and his teammates, and give them some love and appreciation the last two games.”

In Big Sky Conference games only, Peatling is the only player in the league to rank in the top 10 in league-games only in scoring, rebounding, assists, blocked shots and field goal percentage, and he ranks in the top six in each. Further, he is also the only player to average a double-double, and also to rank in the top four in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage.

In 14 league games, he ranks first in rebounding (10.4), second in field goal percentage (.563), fourth in scoring (18.9), sixth in assists (3.5) and third in blocked shots (1.7). He is also first in offensive rebounds (.3.8), second in defensive rebounds (6.7), eighth in assist-to-turnover ratio (+1.4) and 13th in free throw percentage (.651).

Overall, he is 60th in NCAA Division I in rebounding overall (9.1 to rank second in the league behind Aiken) and 30th in offensive rebounds per game (league-leading 3.3). He has 13 double-doubles to rank 25th nationally and lead the Big Sky. He is fifth in the league at 17.4 points per game. He is also averaging 3.0 assists and 1.5 blocks.
