REAL life in these United States
Letter to the Editor

In response to Nancy Street’s letter on Jan. 9, I’d like to give a positive look at our lives in the United States.
Yes, we sit in our comfortable houses watching TV, read the sports pages, tailgate with our friends, go to the gym, shop and use our smartphones. But, let’s look at our lives positively.
We go to the gym to work on bettering ourselves, even when we overindulge.
We drive our SUV’s full of kids to soccer practices and baseball games where we volunteer coach, cheering on our kids, building them up and teaching them life skills.
We use our smartphones to stay in touch with friends and relatives, because we know that connection with family and friends makes our lives richer.
We drive cold streets to deliver warm clothes and blankets to the homeless. We volunteer at shelters. We buy groceries for a neighbor in need. We visit a lonely widow who needs companionship. We donate money and time to causes that touch our hearts, whether close to home or far away.
We teach our kids to be helpful, kind, courageous and loving; and we model those teachings through our actions every day.
If you take the time to look around, you will find good people all over the United States; living comfortable lives, yes, but living our lives for good and helping to make the world better for others one soccer game, phone call, or donation at a time. But you won’t see people like this on the news, and you won’t be a person like this if you sit on your comfortable sofa and just watch TV.
