Christmas lights contest deadline Dec. 15

CHENEY – The local Kiwanis Club and the Gardeners of Cheney are sponsoring the second-annual Christmas lights contest to recognize the city’s best residential holiday lighting display. Nominations are being sought for the home with the best holiday decorations in Cheney, with the winner receiving a$25 gift certificate from Jarms Ace Hardware.

As with both organizations spring through fall “Yard of the Month” contest, the home awarded best decorated isn’t subject to any specific rules other than each individual’s sense of what looks good. Garden Club member Betty Ray said the group will be driving around looking at the nominations with this in mind, but suggested helpful hints on how to decorate might be to think of things such as use of space, color and originality.

As with last year’s contest, the intent is to reward someone’s desire to beautify the community while acknowledging the season’s traditions.

Nominations can be made by contacting Ray at 509-944-1741. Nominations must be made by Dec. 15, with the home being selected on Dec. 16.
