Blackhawk volleyball wins last two

CHENEY — The Lady Blackhawk volleyball squad added two more to the win column last week when the beat both Clarkston and West Valley as the season winds down.

Cheney traveled south to Clarkston (2-9,8-13) on Tuesday, Oct. 22, where they took it to the Bantams on their home wood in five sets 25-14, 21-25, 24-26, 26-24, 15-10.

“Clarkston was not pretty,” assistant coach April Stark said. “But we ended up beating them down in Clarkston.”

Junior Sara Graham led the Blackhawks with 44 assists, 12 digs and six aces. Senior captain Shelby Draper had eight blocks and sophomore Abby Scott had 18 kills against the Bantams.

The Blackhawks then hosted West Valley (1-9, 4-11) for Senior Night, where the team showcased its four seniors, Draper, Abby Fillmore, Abby Witt and Alyssa Larson, beating the Eagles in three straight sets 25-16, 25-12, 25-14.

Draper had nine kills, Witt four blocks, Emily Ek had five aces, and Graham, Hope Schneider and Avery Stark each had 10 digs.

Now 6-5 in the Great Northern League, and 12-6 overall, the Lady Blackhawks will host Clarkston in loser-out play with the winner traveling to Pullman Saturday.
