Cardinal girls soccer score goal

MEDICAL LAKE — The struggling Cardinal girls soccer team managed something they haven’t done in nine games: they got a ball into the opposing teams net.

“They were pretty happy about that,” head coach Zane Higgins said. “And it was against Freeman which was another bonus.”

The point was on a penalty kick by sophomore Allison Davis.

It’s another sign of progress as the fledgling team continues work on improving their game as the end of the season looms.

“Their improving,” Higgins said. “They played a pretty good game against Freeman. They worked hard.”

Still, in improvement measured by a single goal was not enough to win the match when the Cards traveled to Rockford on Thursday, Oct. 10, to take a 16-1 beating at the hands of the 8-1 Scotties on their home pitch.

Medical Lake also faced Lakeside on Tuesday, Oct. 8. Box scores were unavailable by press time.

Now at 0-7 in league play and 0-9 overall, the Cardinals were scheduled to face Newport (1-7, 1-11) on Tuesday, Oct. 15, before traveling to Riverside (2-7, 2-8) today, Thursday, Oct. 15. Both games start at 4 p.m.
