Cheney group holds food drive at Mitchell's Oct. 19-20

CHENEY – The Columbia Plateau Wildlife Management Association is holding a food drive at Mitchell’s Harvest Foods in Cheney. The food drive will take place Saturday and Sunday, Oct.19-20, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. both days.

Columbia Plateau Wildlife Management volunteer Wayne Baker said the organization wanted to do something for the Cheney community since they are a local organization.

“What we want to do is have Cheney residents donating to the Cheney Food Bank,” Baker said. “We want it to be local going to all local.”

Canned along with boxed or bag dry goods can be dropped off with volunteers at Mitchell’s. Baker said some of the items Cheney Food Bank officials say are needed is peanut butter, green beans, chili, condensed soups — the most sought after being tomato and chicken noodle — tuna and canned fruit such as peaches and pears. Other items include baby formula, rice and cereals.

According to its website, the Columbia Plateau Wildlife Management Association is a Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife LHP management program, founded in 2011. Its mission statement notes that it “is organized exclusively as a charitable non-profit land management association offering free controlled hunting access to youth, disabled and other hunters with limited or no access to hunting property while providing for wildlife stewardship and good landowner relationships.”
