CHENEY – Golfer Peter Condon won gold at the Special Olympics North America Golf Championships played Sept. 22-25 at Hermitage Golf Course in Old Hickory, near Nashville, Tenn. Condon defeated reigning U.S. champion Scott Rohrer of South Carolina and Canadian Krystian Pushka by one stroke, competing in the highest division.

The competition stretched for 54 holes over the three days. Condon finished in fourth place at the end of the first round, shooting an 83, and followed it with a round of 78 on the second day, elevating him to third.

On day three, Condon shot a 76, jumping him over Rohrer and Pushka and to the gold medal.

"Peter was very proud to represent Washington state at the event and was even chosen as one of three athletes to bring the Flame of Hope into the Opening Ceremonies," his mother Jill Condon said in an email.

Condon is a 2014 graduate of Cheney High School and competed on the Blackhawks golf team. In 2014, he earned a trip to the Washington 2A classification competition at Chambers Bay near Tacoma, home of the 2015 U.S. Open.
