Cheney Congregational Church

Pastor Matt Goodale has been at Cheney Congregational Church since July 2019. Please come to meet him at services on Sunday, Sept 29, at 10 a.m. or any Sunday morning.

The text for his sermon this week will be 1 Timothy 6:6-19, describing how eternal life is not something we look forward to, but is something that we begin to live in the now because Christ has brought it near. Since eternal life is in our midst already, this changes the ways we live, the ways we spend our money and the ways we pursue happiness.

There is a special place for young children to play in the back of our sanctuary. Parents can be part of the service while their children play in quiet activities right in front of them. A children’s church for those generally ages 4-10 will follow the opening part of our service. It is wonderful to see more young people at our services.

You are cordially invited to join us for a special fellowship hour following services this week (Sept 29). There will be a “5th Sunday Ice Cream Social” with homemade ice cream and peach sorbet, cookies and fruit. There will also be root beer to make your own float. We’d love to meet you there for fun and fellowship.

Feed Cheney will be Monday, Sept 30 at 5:30 PM this month. Cheney Congregational regularly participates with other churches in the community.

Church office hours are Mondays 1-4 p.m., Tuesdays 9 a.m.-noon and Thursdays 11 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Please call ahead to be sure that someone is in the office. Goodale is available by appointment.

Office e-mail is cheneycongregational@gmail.com. Office phone is 509-235-4103 where a voice mail message may be left if no one is available to answer.

Come join us for all of our activities. Everyone is welcome at Cheney Congregational Church.

Emmanuel Lutheran Church

The congregation of Emmanuel Lutheran Church invites you to worship with us at 10:30 a.m. this Sunday, Sept. 29. Fellowship follows the worship service.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, Nov. 3 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. for Emmanuel’s annual Holiday Bazaar and Luncheon. This is a good opportunity to start your holiday shopping.

All are welcome to visit Emmanuel’s Little Free Library and Free Community Pantry located at 639 Elm St. Donations of books, non-perishable food, and personal care items for all ages are always accepted. Both are open to the community 24/7. Emmanuel thanks you for your continued support of this outreach ministry to our neighbors in need.

For your contemplation: “There is a desire within each of us, in the deep center of ourselves that we call our heart. We were born with it, it is never completely satisfied, and it never dies. We are often unaware of it, but it is always awake. It is the human desire for love. Every person on this earth yearns to love, to be loved, to know love. Our true identity, our reason for being, is to be found in this desire.” Gerald G. May

United Methodist Church

Please join us in worship at the United Methodist church this Sunday. Pastor Alissa Bertsch will be preaching. A special offering will be received to benefit United Methodist churches in Alaska. Preceding worship at 9 a.m. there is a multi-age Sunday school class and an adult Bible school class studying the book Simon Peter by Adam Hamilton.

Sunday afternoon the chancel choir will be joining other area choirs in the Inland Northwest Choir Festival at Spokane Valley UMC at 4:30 p.m. All are welcome at this free musical event.

You may call the church office for additional information on other worship and study opportunities during office hours, Tuesday – Thursday from 4:30-8 p.m.
