Cardinal girls soccer team falls to Lakeside, Kettle Falls

Medical Lake’s girls’ soccer team started the season struggling, going scoreless in their first two games, out-gunned and out-maneuvered on the pitch.

The Cardinals dropped their first game to the North Central Indians (2-0) on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the Merkel Sports Complex, an 8-0 rout in non-league soccer action.

On Thursday, Sept 12, the Cards hosted Lakeside, taking a 14-0 shellacking against the Eagles superior ball-handling, leaving the teams only club player, goalie Annastasia Hurt-Moran, doing her best to defend the net against the dominant Eagles offensive onslaught.

The Cardinals then hosted Kettle Falls on Saturday, Sept. 14, in non-league action, losing that game 2-0.

Statistics for the games were not made available by press time.

Medical Lake is now 0-1 in Northeast A League play and 0-3 overall. They will be hosting Freeman on Tuesday, Sept. 17, before traveling to Newport on Friday, Sept. 20, then hosting Riverside at home on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

The team needs time on the grass, according to head coach Zane Higgins.

“Its just experience; getting touches on the ball and getting familiar,” Higgins said of his young, inexperience team after the Lakeside game. “Just a lot of things to work on.”
