Cheney Congregational Church

Church shopping?  Check us out any Sunday at 10 a.m. and stay for refreshments at our 11 a.m. coffee hour so we can get acquainted and answer any questions you may have.

Our new pastor, Matt Goodale, is continuing his sermon series, “A Surprising Family of Faith,” focusing on how we all encounter God in unique ways, this Sunday, Aug. 18, at 10 a.m.  Our faith journeys may look different, but they are all embraced by God, who uses each of our stories to reveal a different texture, color, or shade of God’s love for all of us.

Goodale will preach this week on Zacchaeus (Luke 18:35-19:10) whose encounter with Jesus reveals a scandalous inclusive grace.

Our exterior paint is getting refreshed this week thanks to volunteers from our congregation.  Church council meets on Monday, Aug. 19, at 6:30 p.m. in the Fireside Room.  We’re providing the sack dinner for Feed Cheney this month on Aug. 26.  Contact Jennifer Dahl if you are available to help make sandwiches, put the sack dinners together, and/or help distribute them at 5:30 p.m. in Veterans Park.

Our choir is gearing up for fall and we invite you to join the choir if you like to sing, even if you’ve never been to our church before.  We especially need tenors and basses, but welcome all voices and all ages.  First choir rehearsal is Sunday, Sept. 1, at 9 a.m. in the sanctuary.  Our address is 423 N. 6th Street, at the corner of Oakland.

Emmanuel Lutheran Church

The congregation of Emmanuel Lutheran Church invites you to worship with us at 10:30 a.m. this Sunday, Aug. 18. Fellowship hour follows the worship service.

Mark your calendars for Sunday, Sept. 8. On this Sunday we will be having several events, the first being “Rally Day,” which marks the beginning of the church year. “GIFT” Sunday will also return after a summer break. Our 10:30 a.m. “GIFT” Sunday worship is an intergenerational worship and Sunday school service for all ages. All are welcome! We will wrap up the day with “God’s Work, Our Hands” our yearly service project for the community.

All are welcome to visit Emmanuel’s Little Free Library and Free Community Pantry located at 639 Elm St. Donations of books, non-perishable food, and personal care items for all ages are always accepted. Both are open to the community 24/7. Emmanuel thanks you for your continued support of this outreach ministry to our neighbors in need.

For your contemplation: “The person must be free enough to be himself before the Lord, to look at the Lord, to receive from the Lord, to commit himself to the Lord, to grieve with the Lord, to let himself be consoled by Him. The more freely and expansively he enters into these stages, the more deeply he is likely to experience them.” William J. Connolly, S.J.

United Methodist Church

The “Birthday Bunch” from the United Methodist Church will gather at Xanny’s at Bunker’s Resort on Williams Lake this Saturday. The no-host breakfast begins at 9 a.m.

Sunday morning worship is at 10 a.m. and is led by pastors Alissa Bertsch and Pat Sleeth. There will be a celebration this Sunday at UMC as we honor those students who have recently completed confirmation class. Looking for a church home where all are welcomed? Please join us at Cheney UMC.
