American Legion AA Medical Lake Post 196 closes the season in the the dark in Kettle Falls

Perhaps it was a bad omen when the umpires arrived an hour late.

Whatever the reason, the American Legion AA Medical Lake Post 196 crew finished their season with a two-game make-up doubleheader at Kettle Falls that ended in a double loss.

Pitcher Denton Deal "had his worst outing of the year," head coach Jefferson French said of game one.

"He wasn't able to find the strike zone," French said. "And when he did they hit him pretty well."

The first game went to Kettle Falls 14-2.

The tardy officials helped Post 196 loss the second game 11-4 when it was called in the sixth inning - due to darkness.

Medical Lake struggled to make plays in the second game. Offensively they hit the ball better, but couldn't drive in runs when they needed, according to French, stranding seven runners on base.

Eugene Haas did well on the mound for Post 196 in game two, according to French, and had a pair of RBI singles offensively.

Corbin Roberts also hit a pair of RBIs, plus two "outstanding diving catches in center field," French said.

The Medical Lake Post 196 crew went 9-13 in league play and 10-18 overall for the season.

"I don't feel our record accurately depicts how our season went," French said, noting that "five or six" of the teams losses were by a single run.

"These kids played hard all summer and I'm truly proud of each one of them," French said.
