Cardinal wrestlers head for regionals in Omak, Othello

February 7, 2019

It was a “pretty tough year” due to injuries that saw six state-level grapplers go down for the season, according to head coach Matt Leenhouts.

But he was happy to report that his back-up squad came out late in the season to make up for the early wrestler losses.

“We ended up having 13 kids move on to regionals,” Leenhouts said.

The Cardinals finished fourth at the District 7 tournament and 7-3 in duals. Thirteen wrestlers advanced to regionals including: Angel Mendez 106 pounds, Aden Carl 113, Weston Thomas 120, John Anderson 126, Justin Warnick 138, Brandon Giles 145, Victor Long 152, Brent Keith 160, Jarod Pendell 170, Jaysen Bremer 220, Nick Thompson 285, and Threadgill was ranked 10th among girls in the state in her weight class, according to Washington Wrestling Report, earning the girls sub-regional wrestling champion title. Threadgill will be traveling to Othello for girl’s regionals.

Boy’s regionals begin 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 9, at Omak High School.
