Airway Heights hosts rec center job fairs

As Airway Heights prepares for its long-awaited recreation center to open this spring, the city’s Parks and Recreation Department is hosting job fairs this month for several upcoming positions at the new facility.

The first was held Wednesday, Feb. 6. The second will be held on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 10 a.m. at the Airway Heights Community Center.

Many positions will be available for personal trainers, fitness instructors, front desk staff and lifeguards, Parks and Recreation Fitness supervisor Jared Nichols said. The department is also hiring for program coordination, park maintenance, child care and guest services.

“We’ll most likely fill the majority of these positions through these fairs, though there are internal postings as well,” Nichols said. “We’ll continue the process afterward as well since it’s unlikely we’ll get every single position filled.”

According to a press release, the fairs will allow prospective job seekers to get to know learn about career opportunities, get to know existing facility staff, get help on resumes and fill out applications for various positions.

Interested parties should attend with a copy of their resume and any references they wish to provide, though applications for certain positions will be provided.

Nichols said that while the city is not 100 percent sure if the recreation center will officially open for business the first week of April or push into May, the city will “want these folks in place before April or maybe the end of March.”
