Lady Blackhawks fall short at home in Clarkston upset

Cheney High’s girls basketball team almost found a way to pull off an upset of the state’s seventh-ranked 2A team last Tuesday.

The Lady Blackhawks fell behind early at home against Great Northern League leader Clarkston on Jan. 22, trailing 14-4 after the first eight minutes of play. But they rallied, outscoring the Bantams 20-11 in the third quarter to tie the game at 37 before fading down the home stretch in the 59-49 loss.

Aijia Loffredi led Cheney in scoring with 16 points, with fellow senior Haley Pemberton adding 11. Clarkston’s Ashlyn Wallace led all scorers with 22 points.
