Free women’s self-defense class offered on Jan. 26

Cheney High School’s Future Business Leaders of America Club will be partnering with West Plains Karate to host a free women’s self-defense class.

The event will be hosted on Jan. 26 at Cheney High School from 10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. All women 16 years of age or older are welcome to attend.

Cheney church to feature Native American art talk

Cheney Congregational Church is continuing its series “Things I Learned Somewhere” on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. Carl Schwenn will show and discuss some fine examples of Native American Artwork.

Presentations in this series are free and open to the public, at 423 N. 6th St. in the sanctuary, and will be followed by refreshments and conversation in the Fireside Room.

Libraries close to honor Martin Luther King Jr.

All Spokane County Library District facilities will be closed on Monday, Jan. 21, to observe Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Regular library hours resume Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019.

Cheney book club meets Jan. 22 for discussion

The Cheney Friends of the Library book discussion group will meet on Jan. 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room at the library. Group member Mary Lu Wade will present the book, “School of Essential Ingredients” by Erica Bauermeister.
