Barbara C. (Babb) Curtis, 73, born Jan. 14, 1945 and a lifetime resident of Cheney, passed away on the family farm near Cheney on Dec. 4, 2018 where she was born and raised.

Barb was a graduate of Cheney High School, class of 1963, and soon after married Jack Curtis, an airman at Fairchild Air Force Base. The next 10 years were spent moving around the country with the Air Force and getting a family started. After her husband’s discharge from the military, Barb and family moved to the Cheney area farm where they have resided for 45 years.

After a number of years employed at Betz Elementary School, Barbara devoted much of her time volunteering. She was very passionate about supporting veterans causes and volunteering on their behalf.  For years she took baked goods to the Victory House in Spokane and collected donations of clothing and household items for veteran families.

As a member of the Cheney Cemetery Association, Cheney Historical Museum, a Daughters of the American Revolution chapter and Cheney Grange, her days were busy while raising two daughters and helping with the farm duties. In spite of that, she still had time to accumulate over 10,000 names in her computer genealogy program and produced multiple family history books for each grandchild.

Barbara will be missed by many in the community, but no more than her husband of 55 years, Jack, daughters LuAnne Long and Linette (Patrick) Albin, her five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Barbara requested private services and will be interred at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cheney Historical Museum or the Cheney Cemetery Association in her memory.

Visit her online guestbook at cheneyfuneral.com.
