Lady Blackhawks trounce Rogers

Cheney High School’s girls basketball game with visiting Rogers of the Greater Spokane League was close for a while — until the jump ball to start the non-league contest took place.

The Lady Blackhawks shutout the Pirates 27-0 in the first quarter, and again in the fourth period, 10-0, to cruise to a lopsided 75-8 win in their season opener last Tuesday. All nine varsity players got into the scorebook, with junior Maggie Smith and sophomore Emma Evans leading the way with 16 points each.

No other information was available at press time. Cheney, which returns seven players from last year’s squad, was to travel to Post Falls to face the Trojans (1-3) of Idaho’s 5A Inland Empire League.

The Lady Blackhawks return home to take on Clarkston (1-0), who faced the GSL’s Shadle Park on Tuesday, on Friday, Dec. 7, in the Great Northern League opener for both schools.
