Blackhawk runners compete in Portland as Pacific Pod

Cheney High cross country runners took a trip to Portland to compete at the NXR Northwest Regional championships Nov. 10, running as team Pacific Pod.

Bas Holland posted the highest place and time for the mens’ team. Running by himself in the 5,000-meter Open Championship race, the junior finished 47th overall out of 180 runners with a time of 16 minutes, 12.70 seconds.

Joining Holland were five teammates who competed in the Open Invitational race, and another five running in the Rising Stars competition. Senior Julian Torres led Pacific Pod to 50th out of 84 teams in the Open Invitational, placing 132nd in 17:20.60.

Torres was followed by sophomore Beckett Schoenleber in 204th (17:39.40), junior Kyle Peabody in 351st (18:17.90), senior Dillon Newbry in 418th (18:36.80) and junior Andres Margraf in 434th (18:42.70). The Open Invitational classification fielded 711 runners from around the Pacific Northwest.

Freshman Dylan Thornburg powered Pacific Pod to its highest team finish, coming in 22nd out of 40 teams in the Rising Stars race. Thornburg was 115th overall in 19:00.20, and was followed by seniors Jameson Powell (144th, 19:23.50), Chayce Crawford (181st, 19:50.50) and Tucker Cunningham (192nd, 19:58.90) with junior Charles Cindric 197th in 20:00.80.

In women’s competition, sophomore Anna Richardson led Pacific Pod to a 46th-place finish out of 50 teams, turning in a time of 21:55.90 for 261st. She was followed by sophomore Mayah Spakousky in 315th (22:24.50), and juniors Alexia Batchelor (343rd, 22:53.40), Caelyn Foster (345th, 22:54.80) and Ryleigh Bowes (380th, 23:30.30).

Freshman Camber Moad led the Rising Stars team to a 19th-place finish, placing 82nd in 22:49.10. Junior Maisie Short was 124th in 24:13.10, followed by sophomore Halle Sargent (139th, 25:04.00), junior Megan Habegger (158th, 25:47.10) and senior Megan Christianson (170th, 26:54.10).
