Medical Lake budget hearings set for Nov. 6, 20

The Medical Lake City Council will hold public hearings on Tuesday, Nov. 6 and Tuesday, Nov. 20, both at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers of City Hall located at 124 S. Lefevre Street, Medical Lake.

The purpose of the public hearings shall be to receive public comment on the 2019 preliminary and final budget. Copies of those budgets will be available at City Hall beginning on Friday, Nov. 2 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Cheney Scouts food drive underway Nov. 3 - Nov. 10

Cheney Scout Troop 356 is holding its annual Scouting For Food drive. Scouts will be getting out to residences on Nov. 3 to distribute plastic grocery sacks that will be left at each front door.

The Scouts will return on Nov. 10 to collect the filled grocery sacks which will then deliver to the Cheney Food Bank.

‘Try hockey for free’ day returns to EWU on Nov. 10

The Spokane Warhorses invites boys and girls to the Eastern Washington University Recreation Center ice arena on Saturday, Nov. 10, for another edition of a USA Hockey “Try hockey for free” clinic.

The event is part of Hockey Weekend Across America, a promotion designed to encourage kids to take up the game. Starting at 9 a.m., local youth, ages 4 to 9, are encouraged to experience ice hockey for the first time and learn the basic skills in a fun, safe environment.

The Warhorse organization will have a variety of equipment on hand for use and skate rental is available.

Annual Turkey Trot coming Nov. 22 - dogs allowed

The 11th annual Turkey Trot is taking place Thanksgiving day, Nov. 22. The 2-3 mile run/walk kicks off at 9 a.m. at Cheney High School and is open to walkers and runners of all ages, with dressing in costumes encouraged. Dogs are allowed too!

The race only entry fee is $5. Entry forms are available by emailing Jay Martin at jmartin@cheneysd.org. Entrants receive a ticket for a drawing to win prizes, including a turkey.

Portion of the proceeds are donated to the Cheney Food Bank.

West Plains Angels benefit at Napa Auto Parts Nov. 3

Cheney’s Napa Auto Parts is hosting a fundraiser to benefit the West Plains Angels organization. The West Plains Angels mission is to financially assist “veterans organizations, churches, other non-profits and groups that enrich the quality of our community by helping and being of service to others.”

The fundraiser is Nov. 3 from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Napa, located at 20 Simpson Parkway. There will be a 20 percent storewide discount on products, along with 50 percent off wiper blades and 25 percent off Carlyle Tools.

There will also be hot chocolate and treats along with a 50/50 raffle.
