Cheney officials struggled to come up with $273,000 to fund a portion of the SR-904 corridor project after the City Council rejected a plan to create a local improvement district.

Oct. 20, 1988

As the 25th anniversary of the Cheney Rotary Club approached, they recognized four founding members who were still active in the club.


A group of Eastern Washington University faculty members established a fund to help pay for an expensive bone marrow transplant for a coworker with leukemia.

Cheney’s Tom Trulove was selected to chair the Northwest Power Planning Council.

Oct. 22, 1978

A Cheney district judge denied allegations that his campaign workers had anything to do with the release of derogatory information concerning a judicial race opponent.

Grain prices were reported as $3.39 per bushel for soft white wheat and $66.50 per ton for barley.

After much discussion, the city of Cheney voted unanimously to invest in a new computer data system.

Oct. 24, 1968

Cheney completed and installed six directional signs at parks and athletic facilities around the city.

The Cheney School District planned to present an $800,000 bond on the Nov. 5 ballot.

The Cheney Free Press published the names and postal information of local men serving in Vietnam so they could receive packages for Christmas.
