Shorthanded ML soccer struggles in pair of losses

The last thing Medical Lake head girls soccer coach Zane Higgins needed was injuries on his already thin roster.

But that was the case last week where the Cardinals lost a pair of Northeast A League matches, 5-1 at Riverside on Sept. 18 and 6-0 at home to Colville, Sept. 20. Medical Lake (1-4 NEA, 1-6 overall) did earn a nonleague win, 7-0 against Kettle Falls last Saturday.

“Injuries are taking a toll,” Higgins said. “We played games on Tuesday and Thursday with only a couple of subs per game.”

Jaxyn Farmen scored her team’s lone goal against the Rams, and the week, ending the shutout bid in the 73rd minute.

Medical Lake may have played with just 10 players against Kettle Falls but Farman proved to be a one-person wrecking crew scoring five goals. Haili Threadgill had the other two scores.

“We are hoping to get some of them back by the end of the week or early next week,” Higgins said as his team faced just one NEA contest this week, a match this past Tuesday against Deer Park.
