Maverik, the convenience store and fueling station company, is adding another location on the West Plains on the southeast corner of Hayford Road and Highway 2 in Airway Heights.

“They have been looking at the development for quite some time,” Airway Heights Public Work Director Kevin Anderson said.

During the city’s July 11 Planning Commission meeting, the board looked over a request from Maverick to perform a SEPA review for the proposed station and included a public hearing.

The property will be on 2.8 aces (94,997 square feet), zoned as C-2, general commercial and is located at 10707 West State Route 2.

The proposal also included a 4,300 square foot convenience store, eight fueling stations and 38 parking stalls. It is set to be completed in two phases.

The first one will include the store, fueling stations and all internal site work, but will not include the proposed direct Highway 2 access from the site. It will utilize a shared access with the existing Washington Trust Bank directly to the east. The new access will be completed during the second phase of the proposal.

After reviewing the packet, the commission approved the project.

“It was the typical SEPA process,” Anderson said. “It is basically routine approval so that the development can move forward and now it can move on.”

The next step for the project is to submit the plans and get approval. The building department in Airway Heights is also reviewing the proposal.

“They want to construct it this fall,” Anderson added.

According to their website, Maverik has more than 300 locations across 11 western states, making it the largest independent fuel marketer in the intermountain west. They are known for their premium BonFire food, which is made fresh in every location and every day.

Maverik sells exclusive products such as fresh-made, gourmet burritos, sandwiches, pizzas, cookies coffee blends and more from around the world.
