Cheney names Andrus director of support services

Cheney Public Schools announced in an Aug. 2 news release that Dr. Robin Andrus has been selected as the new Director Of Student Support Services. Andrus was selected for the assistant director position in June after an extensive interview process, but was elevated to both positions after former Director of Student Support Services Kristi Thurston was offered a position with another school district.

Andrus earned her bachelor’s degree at Eastern Washington University, graduating cum laude, as well as her master of science degree in school psychology. She received her P-12 principal certification from Washington State University, and obtained her doctor of education degree in innovation in educational leadership from Wilmington University, where she received the Doctor of Education Award for Academic Excellence.

Previously, Andrus worked as a school psychologist for Woodbridge School District in Delaware and in the Colville School District after returning home to Washington state. Prior to her tenure at Woodbridge she served as Assistant Superintendent of the Laurel School District.

In prior years, Andrus served as Director of Special Programs and Services for the Seaford School District, Assistant Principal in Georgetown, Delaware, and Special education coordinator/teacher and school psychologist in Vancouver, Wash. and in Portland, Ore. She has also worked as an adjunct professor, College of Education, at Wilmington University between 2011 and 2015.

“A common theme in the recommendations received was how Robin uses different strategies to create a common vision and is always looking for ways to improve and advance special education,” the school district said in the release. “With her dedication to special education services and the students that are served, Robin will continue to provide excellent direction to Student Support Services.”
