Cheney should take measures on pit-bulls

Letters to the Editor

Pit-bull owners say their dogs are just loving and loyal. But if your neighbor owns one you might have a different opinion.

In the duplex across the alley from our home, tenants recently came with two pit-bull puppies. They seem obedient to their owners but regarding me they seem increasingly aggressive and territorial as they grow, and apparently their territory is wherever they are.

I was cleaning some debris from the alley and my neighbor opened their door and their pit-bull shot across their property line growling at me and coming very close until the owner’s shouts brought it back to their house. I was very afraid.

Once one of these dogs came into our garage and once I discovered one on our lawn staring at me and growling. I have never seen either one on a leash. My request to the landlord to build a containment fence was met with “I don’t have to.”

The website “Dogsbite.org” states that fully 65.6 percent of all fatal dog attacks on humans are from pit-bulls and shows that 29 Washington state municipalities have either banned pit-bulls altogether or designated them as dangerous or potentially dangerous.

Shouldn’t Cheney do something like this?
