Cheney Community Church

Cheney Community Church recently honored its high school graduates with a potluck gathering following the morning service.

The AWANA Club wound up its successful year in mid-May with a special awards ceremony. AWANA is an acronym taken from 2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth (are) not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (KJV) (Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed)

Awards were given to the children and teens for attendance, scripture memory and completion of workbooks. Leaders were honored for years of club service.

Two teens, Daniel Lambert and Marshall Simons, received the Citation Award which is the highest award given in the AWANA program and reflects the completion of 10 years of work. It is only given to graduating seniors. Some of the award requirements include the completion of all workbooks during the 10 years, reading the Bible through, memorizing numerous scriptures and participation in a service project. We are very proud of these two young men for this accomplishment.

The church women held their monthly brunch on Saturday, June 2. They discussed spiritual gifts. The men will have their breakfast at 8 a.m. this coming Saturday, June 9, at 8 a.m. with a special speaker.

The Youth Group, ‘Holy Flame,’ meets Monday at 6 p.m. for dinner followed by Bible study 6:30 – 8 p.m. All are welcome to worship with us on Sunday at 10 a.m. Bible classes for adults and teens are held at 9:45 a.m. on Sundays.

Cheney Congregational Church

Men of the church are invited to gather at Cheney Marketplace Bakery & Eatery this Sunday at 7:45 a.m. for breakfast. The sermon this Sunday will be the fifth in a series on how to read the Bible. The title is “Easy Rules: How Not to Fall into Pits of Misunderstanding.” The scripture is 2 Timothy 4:1-5.

All are welcome here. We meet at 423 N. Sixth St. on Sunday mornings with coffee hour afterward, around 11 a.m. Check us out some Sunday. We’re all at different places in our faith journey and welcome visitors regardless of their beliefs. Our building is accessible and our people are friendly.

On Thursday next week (6/14) the “Lunch Bunch” will have their monthly potluck in the fellowship hall at noon. At 1 p.m., the communications team will meet in the Fireside Room.

Emmanuel Lutheran Church

All are welcome to worship with us this Sunday, June 10 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Coffee hour follows the worship service. Christian education will meet at 9 a.m. Please note that Christian education will be on hiatus after this Sunday until fall.

Mark your calendars for Vacation Bible School. This year the Lutherhaven Staff will once again lead our VBS program from July 16-20. Registration forms for children and volunteers are available on our website at http://www.emmanuelcheney.org. Please note that our VBS program is for children entering first through sixth-grade this fall.

All are welcome to visit Emmanuel’s Little Free Library and Free Community Pantry located at 639 Elm St. Donations of books, non-perishable food, and personal care items are always accepted. Both are open to the community 24/7.

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church

A welcoming haven, nourishing all God’s people in body, mind and spirit. The Rev. Christine Soule will preach and preside this Sunday.

Attention all college students: The Episcopal, Lutheran and Methodist Campus Ministry, ELM, meets each Monday at 5 p.m. for dinner, study and worship and invites all college students to join us. For more information contact Soule at (509) 844-2553.

Fellowship breakfast is each Thursday at 7:30 a.m. Alcoholics Anonymous meets every Saturday at l1:30 a.m. in the parish hall.

We are once again preparing our vegetable garden boxes and looking forward to bringing fresh, healthy vegetables to the Cheney Food Bank this spring and summer.

United Methodist Church

Pastor Alissa Bertsch will lead the worship service this Sunday at the United Methodist Church. There will be a special blessing and send off for our chancel choir as they prepare to leave for New York City to sing in a mass choir concert at Carnegie Hall. Sunday school classes are in recess for the summer.
