Storm FC U-17 prove to be top hot shots

The Cheney Storm FC girls U-17 soccer team won their bracket at Coeur d'Alene Sting's annual Hot Shots tournament, May 12–13. The Storm were undefeated, opening with a 3-1 win over Missoula FC, followed by a 4-2 victory over Sandpoint FC to advance to the bracket title game Sunday, where they edged NSC Montana, 2-1.

"Our defense was relentless and helped in the attack each game," head coach Brian Scott said in an email. "We added some younger players to the roster this year and they are really stepping up.

Emma Scott led in the team in scoring in the tournament with four goals, with Peyton Knox adding two goals, Kaitlin Teeters two goals and two assists and Jocelyn Cone four assists. Makena Benson added one goal and one assist.

The Hot Shots tournament was the first for Cheney this year, and will serve as part of their preparation for the U.S. Club Regionals in Boise, Idaho at the end of June, Scott added.
