Mazzaferro joins staff in Medical Lake

The Natural Health Center & Regenerative Medicine, located in Medical Lake, has announced the addition of Dr. Adam Mazzaferro as the newest member of its team of specialists. According to an April 17 news release, Mazzaferro has already begun seeing patients.

Mazzaferro is a recent graduate of the University of Western States where he obtained his doctor of chiropractic while simultaneously completing a masters of science in sports medicine. He is an ardent advocate of Veterans healthcare and has a special interest in treating troops.

Natural Health Center offers chiropractic care, acupuncture, massage therapy and PRP, ozone, and prolotherapy injections.

Populism and our political paranoia are subject of open government discussion

The organization People For Effective Government’s (PEG’s) is hosting a second public forum on May 22, at 7 p.m. at the Moran Prairie County Library, 6004 S. Regal St. in Spokane.

Cornell W. Clayton, director of the Thomas S. Foley Institute For Public Policy And Public Service and a Thomas S. Foley Distinguished Professor of Government at Washington State University (WSU) will be presenting a talk entitled “Populism And Political Paranoia — What The Past Tells Us About Overcoming Our Divisive Politics Today.”

Clayton received his doctor of philosophy in politics from Oxford University and has been a member of the WSU faculty since 1992. His research interests focus on American government and politics, constitutional history, judicial politics and political theory.

An award-winning scholar and author, he has written or edited eight books and more than 60 scholarly journal articles and book chapters. Past recognitions have included Truman, Mellon, and British Overseas Research scholarships; the Fulbright, Salzburg and Berry Family fellowships as well as the Claudius O. Johnson and the Wayne N. Aspinall Distinguished Professorships.

There will be a time for questions and answers after Clayton’s talk/presentation. The pubic is cordially invited to attend.

LEAP forms due May 31

The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association is now accepting applications for the 2018-20 WIAA LEAP Committee.

Applicants must be current sophomores (entering their junior year in the fall of 2018). Students who exhibit leadership qualities and are actively involved in WIAA athletics and activities are encouraged to apply. 

Eight (8) incoming juniors will be selected to join the LEAP Committee and will serve a two-year term spanning their junior and senior years.

The LEAP (Leadership through Education, Activities and Personal Development) Committee meets 5-6 times throughout the school year to engage in leadership activities, visit with guest speakers and collaborate on various service projects. All travel expenses associated with attending the meetings are reimbursed by the WIAA.

After their junior year, LEAP Committee members attend a summer retreat designed to strengthen leadership skills and set LEAP Committee goals for the upcoming school year. 

If LEAP Committee members meet all criteria expected of them over their two-year term, they receive a $500 scholarship to the institution of their choice when they graduate. 

In addition to the following online application, applicants are asked to submit a short, creative video personal statement.

Frontier begins two new flights out of SIA

Frontier Airlines has resumed service in Spokane. Starting April 30, the airline began nonstop flights from Spokane to Denver four times a week. The flights will run Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

The airline ended service in Spokane in 2015, but has recently added 100 new routes, including Spokane.

The new route marks the latest additions to the airport’s list of nonstop routes.

On April 8, 2018, Southwest started nonstop service to San Jose. Last year, Southwest Airlines started seasonal nonstop flights from Spokane to San Diego and year-round flights to Sacramento. United Airlines added two nonstop flights, Spokane to San Francisco and Spokane to Chicago, American added Dallas and Delta Air Lines added nonstop service to Los Angeles and Boise.

The Frontier Airlines flight departs Denver at 4:55 p.m. and arrives in Spokane at 6:19 p.m. It then departs Spokane at 7:20 p.m. arrives Denver at 10:35 p.m.
