The Cheney High boys swimming team’s 200-yard freestyle relay squad came up short of a finals appearance at the 2A/3A/4A state swimming meet last weekend at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

The team of Zack Jongeward, Liam Hewey, Cameron Villalobos and Matthew Norman placed 20th out of 24 teams in preliminaries on Friday. The Blackhawks turned in a time of 1 minute, 43.55 seconds, missing the cut for the B finals by 4.86 seconds.

The team from Columbia River was the eventual event winner in the A finals, posting a time of 1:27.29.

The Blackhawks graduate six seniors: Hewey, Joseph Brigman, Steven Freeman, Kevin Houndonougbo, Sam Steele and Caleb Wilcox, but should return a good nucleus of eight juniors, four sophomores and five freshman in 2018-2019.
