Cheney council OKs solid waste truck buy

Cheney’s City Council approved surplusing three vehicles at its Feb. 13 meeting — then turned around and bought a new one at over double the price of the three combined.

Two of the vehicles were in the street department, with the third in solid waste. The latter is a 2010 Autocar front loader with a Curotto unit the city first attempted to use as a trade-in for another vehicle.

Public Works Director Todd Ableman said they were only offered $77,000 for the vehicle. Believing it is worth minimum of $90,000, the department elected to surplus it in hopes of a buyer coming forward.
