Cheney High School has announced that has hired Rene Caro as the new head coach for the Blackhawk boys soccer program. In a Feb. 12 news release, CHS athletics director Jeff Chandler said Caro most recently coached soccer at Mount Vernon High School in Western Washington, assisting then-head coach Tony Dabbs.
Caro played prep soccer at Mount Vernon, accepting a scholarship to play collegiately at the University of Portland in Oregon. After college, he played professionally for the Kitsap Pumas, from Bremerton, of the National Premier Soccer League.
Caro replaces Morgan Hartanov, who resigned the Cheney position on Jan. 17. Hartanov’s teams were a combined 22-15 over two seasons.
Caro graduated cum laude with a biology degree from St. Martins University in Lacey, Wash.
