Chaves reflects on dynamic decade of success at EWU

Athletics and academics won big during his time as AD

Bill Chaves oversaw one of the most dynamic decades in a century-plus of Eastern Washington University history as the school’s athletics director.

And then he came to a crossroads several weeks ago.

“You turn 50 and you’re at a job for 10 years, you’re reflecting, it’s hard not to,” Chaves told EWU play-by-play broadcaster Larry Weir in his final podcast on Jan. 22.

That came just before Chaves officially vacated his corner office in EWU’s Health and Physical Education building in advance of a move to becoming AD at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. He starts there March 1.
