Cheney Congregational Church

Cheney Congregational had their 135th annual meeting on Sunday and we are celebrating a new relationship with the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches (NACCC). This is an association of churches that prizes the autonomy of individual congregations while seeking out the advantages of friendship between congregations. Our congregation also got to celebrate the highest pledge drive we’ve known in years.

On Feb. 4, we are taking a special offering for Feed Cheney through the “Souper Bowl of Caring,” a nationwide charity drive. Your gifts (make checks out to Cheney Congregational Church) will be turned over to Feed Cheney through the “Souper Bowl” charity.

We worship together each Sunday at 10 a.m. On Feb. 4 we will feature a special reading of “The War Prayer” by Mark Twain.

Communion will be moved off a week to Feb. 11. Our congregation’s birthday is coming up on Feb. 18.

Come join us. We are a liberal congregation with an anchor firm in the scriptures. For more information call Pastor Dave Krueger-Duncan at (509) 202-0842.

Mark your calendars for Emmanuel’s ninth annual “Festival of Chocolate” benefit for Vacation Bible School on Fat Tuesday, Feb. 13 from 6:30 – 8 p.m. A monetary donation will be collected at the door. All monies raised will go to our VBS fund. Don’t miss our door prizes, children’s activities and all the chocolate you can eat. Please plan to attend.

Ash Wednesday services will be held on Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. All are welcome, guests expected.

All are welcome to visit Emmanuel’s Little Free Library and Free Community Pantry located at 639 Elm St. Donations of books, non-perishable food and personal care items are always accepted. Both are open to the community 24/7.

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church

Attention all college students: The Episcopal, Lutheran and Methodist Campus Ministry (ELM), meets every Monday at 5 p.m. for dinner, study and worship, and invites all college students to join us. For more information contact Soule at (509) 844-2553.

Choir practice is every Thursday at 6:15 p.m., continuing under the direction of Alexandra Rannow. Please come and sing with us.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets every Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m. in the parish hall.

For your contemplation: “I never saw a moor, I never saw the sea, Yet know I how the heather looks, And what a wave must be. I never spoke with God, Nor visited in heaven, Yet certain am I of the spot As if the chart were given.” – Emily Dickenson.

United Methodist Church

It’s “Souper Bowl” Sunday and the United Methodist Church will join churches and organizations in Cheney and across the country to raise awareness and money to address the issue of hunger. Donations to the soup pot at the back of the sanctuary this Sunday will all go toward Feed Cheney. Pastors Alissa Bertsch Johnson and Pat Sleeth will lead the service and continue the sermon series, “Stewardship with the Saints.” Necessity is the focus this week. Sunday school classes precede worship at 9 a.m., a multi-age class for elementary and middle school students and an adult class discussing “The Book of Joy.”

You may call the church office at 235-4600 for additional information and study opportunities.
