From the archives: 2008 This fire hydrant in Cheney showed the results of a record 8 inches of snow that fell on Jan. 9. It was just part of a winter that brought the area nearly 93 inches of snow for the season, the second most ever, surpassed only by close to 98 inches that fell during the winter of 2008-09.

Cheney and the surrounding West Plains received around eight inches of snow, the most in a single day in the last four years.

At a Cheney City Council meeting, it was announced that the expansion of the wastewater treatment plant was going to cost $12.4 million.

Long-time area sports figure, former Medical Lake coach, athletic director and teacher Hank Coplen passed away. Coplen, 80, had been fighting cancer.
