Tammy Kay Steele

Tammy Kay Steele was born Nov. 29, 1968 in Minneapolis, Minn. She grew up in several different cities in North Dakota as her dad advanced his law enforcement career that lead them to Lafayette, La. for the remainder of her childhood.

She graduated high school in Carencro, La. and went on to enlist in the U.S. Army in 1988. While on an overseas tour in Korea, she met and married Martin J. Steele of Cheney. Tammy decided against re-enlistment, instead dedicating herself to her new family.

Their family grew as they moved from one duty station to the next, eventually settling down and building their house in Cheney. In 2004, she became a bus driver for the Cheney School District.

She leaves behind her husband of 28 years and four children; Alexander M. Steele, Charles J. Steele, Nicholas M. Steele and Samuel W. Steele. All of the children live in Cheney. She also leaves behind her mother and father, Michael and Sharla Colebank of Carencro, La. and her sister Lisa Garcia of Anacoco, La.

Tammy was truly a caring and loving person and the best mother and wife. She will be dearly missed by all. Tammy's viewing will take place at the Cheney Funeral Home on Thursday, Dec. 14, from 6 -- 7 p.m. The funeral and scripture service will follow on Friday, Dec. 15 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
