Cheney tags tax revenues for fire department

When it comes to uses for Cheney’s 2018 forecasted property tax revenue, the city’s fire department figures to be next year’s big winner.

Officials are estimating the regular property tax levy in 2018 to reach almost $1.94 million — of which 23 percent, or $446,300, is dedicated to public safety needs as per the 2015 levy lid lift approved by voters. It’s an 8.33 percent bump over the budgeted amount for 2017 — $409,100 — and 14.18 percent more than 2016’s $383,000.

That amount is sweetened by $185,500 in levy lift revenues that were not used in 2016 and 2017.
