A dream to take politics out of the NFL

Letter to the Editor

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This is one of my favorite quotes of all quotes.

Today, there are those who go against this quote and there are many of us who stand by this quote. I, too, don’t look at someone’s color, religion or social status, but I judge a person by their character. As for those who protest to support this, I support them.

However, if you protest in the work place, you will be discipline. For example, if I said Merry Christmas while working at Barnes and Noble, I would have been reprimanded and understandably. I am working on their dime.

When I watch football, I want to get away from politics and just enjoy a game of competitors striving to be the best in what they do. When these competitors, working in their jobs, start protesting by not respecting our flag, which represents everything great about our country, I have a problem. It’s not about the issue of what they believe in, but what image they are showing our country and disrespecting the organization they represent.

Since this began, I have stopped watching anything NFL and buying or wearing anything that represents the NFL. I will continue this until these competitors stop disrespecting the flag and their organization. If they decide to start a march or protest in their areas for the injustice, I (U.S. Navy veteran) can support that, but not during work.
