Cheney volleyball remains perfect with three more wins

It’s not easy playing three matches in three days, but the Cheney High School volleyball team made that feat look easy last week.

The Lady Blackhawks didn’t drop a game in downing — in order — West Valley, North Central and Clarkston, the last two coming on the road. Cheney defeated the Eagles 25-12, 25-13 and 25-18; and then turned around 48 hours later to knock off the Bantams in Clarkston 25-17, 26-24 and 25-8 to run their Great Northern League record to 2-0.

In between, the Lady Blackhawks swept aside Greater Spokane League 3A North Central 25-15, 25-17 and 25-12, giving them a 4-0 overall season record. So far Cheney has dropped just one game in those four matches, the opening game in the season-opener against the GSL’s Rogers.

Abby Witt led Cheney against West Valley with nine kills, with Peyton Stark making 22 assists and posting four aces. Madisyn Duilio had 12 digs and Shelby Draper a pair of blocks. Stark had 22 assists and 10 kills at Clarkston, with Avery Stark tallying four aces and 11 digs. Draper added two more blocks.

At North Central, Peyton Stark had 16 assists, seven kills and four aces. Morgan Peace added nine digs and Draper three blocks.

With the North Central win, Cheney wraps up its non-league schedule and now focuses on defending its District 7 title and goes in search of a third consecutive GNL crown. The Lady Blackhawks resume that tonight (Thursday) by traveling to East Valley.

Cheney remains on the road with a match Sept. 26 at Pullman before returning home to face Clarkston Sept. 28.
