Fire danger halts road grading throughout county

Spokane County announced in a July 25 news release that it has halted road grading in four road districts due to continuing hot and dry weather throughout the Inland Northwest, which has dramatically increased the risk of wildfires.

The Spokane County Public Works Department is asking the public to be patient and understand that until a substantial amount of rainfall drenches the region, road crews are unable to grade dirt and gravel roads. A single spark from a grader blade could start a fire that destroys a home and surrounding properties.
