Cannons return to state tourney

Wagner later scored his team's lone run in a 2-1 loss to Gonzaga Prep in a seeding game for state. The Cannons open play Saturday at Al K. Jackson Field at 10 a.m.

As he usually is, Cory Wagner was his productive self in the Spokane Cannon's American Legion AAA district seeding game against Gonzaga Prep.

But Prep's Nick Drynan was equal to the effort the Medical Lake High grad provided on Thacker Field at Joel Ferris High School in a 2-1 Gonzaga victory.

The win sends Prep to the upcoming state tournament as the No. 2 seed from Spokane. The Cannons, which feature a large contingent of West Plains' athletes from both Cheney and Medical Lake, are the No. 3 seed and face an opponent from Eastern Washington's Area 4 Saturday, July 22, at 10 a.m.
