Our community garden is growing as we look forward to giving its proceeds to the Cheney Food Bank.

Attention all college students: The Episcopal, Lutheran and Methodist Campus Ministry is on break for the summer. ELM will resume meeting every Monday at 5 p.m. for dinner, study and worship in September. For more information contact Soule at (509)-844-2553.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets every Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in the parish hall.

For your contemplation: “The Call to ‘do penance’ is based not on the fact that penance will keep us in trim, but on the fact that ‘the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.’ Our penance is our response to the proclamation of the Gospel message, the Kerygma which announces our salvation if we will hear God and harden not our hearts. The function of penance and self-denial is then contrition, or the ‘breaking up’ of that hardness of heart which prevents us from understanding God’s command to love, and from obeying it effectively,” –Thomas Merton.

United Methodist Church

Saturday morning the United Methodist Church “Birthday Bunch” will gather for breakfast at Xanny’s on Williams Lake. The no-host breakfast will begin at 9 a.m. and will honor July birthdays.

Please join us this Sunday morning for worship at the United Methodist Church. This week Patti Sooy will be interviewed about how the Holy Spirit has worked in her life in the last of the sermon series “Lives on Fire: The Holy Spirit in our Midst.” Immediately after worship you are invited to stay and hear ideas from the space and facilities ad hoc committee, a part of our long-range planning project. Sunday afternoon, UMC will provide the worship service at Cheney Care Center. The service will be at 3 p.m.
